I honestly cannot stress how much I loved this session. Amberlyn and I met a few years ago teaching at the same school and we manage to keep in contact even though our lives get a little hectic sometimes! And this momma to be’s life if going to be VERY hectic in just under a month!!!
First of all, I want you all to know that I am writing this blog with the permission from this beautiful momma herself. She, as well as myself, feel awareness is so important these days. In a society that is so connected all the time, there are still subjects that people have absolutely no idea about, or are simply uncomfortable talking about.
I know some of you are thinking, “what is a rainbow baby?” Don’t worry, I was asking that same question up until a few months ago when I saw a few other photographers posting about their rainbow baby sessions. For those of you who are unsure, what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of a rainbow? Light? Beauty? Happiness? Very few think of the storm that has just passed to cause this rainbow. ‘Rainbow babies’ is a term used to represent the hurt, love and strength that families have when dealing with a storms aftermath. They are a sign of light in a time of darkness.
The unfortunate reality is that many, many families go through the loss of a child before they are born. It is a hard and life changing event that no one should ever have to endure. However, a rainbow baby is a special gift that allows the family to honour, remember, love and begin to heal from the storm. In this momma’s exact words, “he is our rainbow after the storm”.
Even though Amberlynn is due with her rainbow baby in less than a month, she was up to doing anything. We hiked up mountain trails, and even went in the lake!
I hope this blog has provided some awareness behind the meaning of ‘rainbow babies’. It truly was an honour to provide Amberlyn and Brian with these photos. It’s sessions like these I am thankful to call myself a photographer. <3
